Maharashtra govt slams Centre's allotment of Remdesivir injections to state

More than 3 lakh new COVID-19 cases and over 2,000 deaths were reported in India on Thursday, a record-high since the pandemic broke out last year. As per the Union Health Ministry, as many as 3,14,835 new COVID-19 cases and 2,104 deaths were reported, taking the total cases to 1,59,30,965, including 22,91,428 active cases. The alarming spread of COVID-19 has led to shortage of oxygen cylinders in the hospitals, Remdesivir medicine, and bed in hospital. Remdesivir is an anti viral drug used in treatment of covid patient. 

The Central government on Wednesday released the allocation data of Remdesivir injection to various states in the country.However the Maharashtra government was not happy with the allocation of the medicine to the state. 

Maharashtra Cabinet minister Nawab Malik in a series of tweet wrote,"Central government has just released the allocation data of #Remdesvir injection to various states in our country.Maharashtra requires 50,000 injections per day, which our government has been demanding. So far we have been receiving only 36,000 injections per day and now aAccording to the new allotment, Maharashtra will receive only 26,000 #Remdesivir injections per day and this therefore will create further crisis in our state which has a high number of #Covid cases. We demand that the central government allot us our requirement of 50,000 injections per day and thus fulfill the requirements of the citizens of Maharashtra.""

According to Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra has been allotted a share of 2,69,200 vials, followed by Gujarat 1,63,500 vials, Uttar Pradesh 1,22,800 vials, Madhya Pradesh 92,400 vials and national capital Delhi has been given 61,900 doses.
