Maharashtra has reported 34 cases of heatstroke in the first 10 days of April 2025. Last year in the same period, 24 cases were reported. Heatwave is gripping several districts of Maharashtra. The authorities have also issued health alerts and asked citizens to be cautious. This has sparked concerns over the implementation of existing safety measures. The district-level data show that Buldhana recorded six cases of heatstroke, the highest number in Maharashtra. It was followed by the Gadchiroli, Nagpur, and Parbhani, with each reporting four cases. Officially, no deaths have been reported, but a suspected fatality has been reported from Buldhana. In Akola, an 11-year-old boy collapsed due to heat, and while he was being taken to the hospital for treatment, he breathed his last breath.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Thane, Sindhudurg, and Raigad. It stated that the temperature could rise by 3 to 4 degrees, and the humidity would be quite high. Health experts and doctors have warned that heatstroke, marked by high body temperature, dizziness, confusion, and dehydration, can be fatal if there is no timely intervention. If anyone faints due to heatstroke, they should be moved to a shaded area and given hydrating fluids like water or ORS.

The state's 16-point Heat Action Plan, which was created in the wake of the tragic Kharghar rally in 2023 that claimed 14 lives, is still not being properly executed in spite of warnings.
