Maharashtra: Two Booked for Illegally Transporting 14 Buffaloes in Overcrowded Tempo Without Permit In Palghar
Two individuals have been booked by the Palghar police for illegally transporting cattle without proper documentation. The incident occurred late on Tuesday when a patrol team stopped a tempo on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near Mira Road.
Upon inspection, officers discovered 14 buffaloes and several calves packed tightly inside the vehicle, appearing to be in distress. An officer reported that the animals were positioned in a way that suggested they were struggling for space. Further investigation revealed that the tempo did not have the required permit for transporting livestock.
Additionally, the animals were found without access to food or water during the journey. The authorities have filed a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. While the two men were questioned and detained, they were later released after receiving notices in accordance with legal procedures. No arrests have been made in connection with the case.
