The NIA suspects that the abandoned Scorpio was parked by suspended API Sachin Vaze near the house of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. The NIA is investigating the case.

The Scorpio found near Ambani's house belonged to Mansukh Hiren, a businessman from Thane. He lodged a complaint with Vikhroli police station that the car was stolen on February 17. It became clear that the theft had not actually taken place. The car was kept hidden by Hiren's friend Vaze on February 17. On February 25, Vaze drove the car to Carmichael Road and parked it at a designated place. Vaze had also arranged an Innova car to escape from there.

After parking Scorpio at finalized destination, Vaze got into the Innova car and left. But after two hours, he came back to Carmichael Road and checked on the parked Scorpio and left. This time the kurta that he had used to hide his identity, was set on fire near Mulund Toll Naka, NIA sources said.

Meanwhile, an investigation has revealed that the Innova car used in the case was given to Vaze's team for government use. The car was parked at the Commissionerate of Police. Also the number plate on it was changed. The car was later seized by the NIA from the MT department of Mumbai Police.
