Mumbai: Central govt's assessment team predicts 75,000 COVID-19 cases by May 15

The plight of Mumbaikars battling the deadly coronavirus is likely to increase further. The central government's assessment team has estimated that 75,000 Covid-19 cases will be found in the city by May 15. Therefore, the third week of May is going to be a big challenge for Mumbaikars. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has also come up with three aggressive plans to combat this crisis. Under this, emphasis will be laid on contract tracing, establishment of more Covid-19 care centres for asymptomatic patients, and increasing the capacity of private and government hospitals.

Currently, the doubling rate of coronavirus patients in Mumbai has doubled in the last 7 days. Earlier this month, the rate was 3.1 days, while the rate of corona patients doubling across the country was 9.1 days. Based on the doubling of the number of corona patients, the central team estimates that out of 75,000 patients, 63,000 will be asymptomatic and 12,000 will have symptoms.

Manisha Mhaiskar, principal secretary of the special deputation department appointed to manage the hospital-related matters in the BMC, said that reducing the number of patients doubling is the first challenge of the corporation. Door-to-door surveillance is also being carried out in the containment zone. 

Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi said that the number of investigations will be further increased. The more positive patients we find, the more likely we are to beat the deadly virus.
