Two people died early Friday after a cement-laden truck plunged into a gorge at the new Kasara Ghat on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway. The accident occurred around 7 a.m. when the driver lost control due to brake failure and plunged into a gorge. Horrific visuals of the wreckage have surfaced online.
Highway police from Ghoti, the route patrol team, and disaster management officials from Kasara-Shahapur reached the scene and began rescue operations. They recovered the bodies of the driver, Abdul Majeed Abdul Wahab, and his colleague, Saud Ahmed Ansari, both from Malegaon.
The victims' bodies were sent to Igatpuri Rural Hospital for autopsy. The incident caused temporary traffic disruptions in Kasara Ghat. Police are investigating the accident.
In a separate incident, a container overturned on the Sion-Panvel road near Nerul’s D.Y. Patil Stadium, leading to heavy traffic congestion. The mishap caused long delays, especially during office hours. Traffic police are working to clear the road and ease the congestion.
