Nagpur: 43-Year Dies After Lying Unattended on Roadside for 22 Hours After Accident
A 43-year-old man, injured in an accident, died on the roadside after lying unattended for nearly 22 hours as passersby failed to help. The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Kalamna police station, raising concerns over the growing insensitivity among citizens. The victim, identified as Govardhan Bhagwandas Shahu, was crossing the road near Anna Liquor Shop on Old Kamptee Road on Sunday around 10:15 a.m. when a white pickup van hit him. The impact left him with injuries to his leg, and he collapsed on the spot.
A local resident, Prabhu Choudhary, 35, moved Shahu under a tin shed outside a scrap shop, assuming he would recover soon. Choudhary then left the spot. The next morning, around 8:30 a.m., he returned to the liquor shop with a friend and noticed Shahu still lying there. When they tried to wake him, he remained unresponsive. Choudhary’s friend immediately alerted the police. A crowd gathered at the scene, and among them was a woman who turned out to be Shahu’s wife.

The accident site is near a liquor shop frequented by several people, yet no one came forward to help Shahu. Had he received medical attention on time, his life could have been saved. Shahu was a daily wage laborer.
