Nagpur Violence: Amravati on Alert After Clashes; Police Urge Peace, Warn Against Rumors (Watch Video)

Following a clash between two groups in Nagpur, police in Amravati have heightened security to prevent any unrest. Police Commissioner Naveen Chandra Reddy has urged citizens to maintain peace and avoid spreading rumors. He assured that strict measures are in place and warned of firm action against anyone disturbing law and order.

"After Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, all events in the city have passed peacefully. Security arrangements remain tight, with senior officers and police personnel patrolling sensitive areas," Reddy said. "Citizens are requested not to believe in rumors. Regarding the Nagpur incident, if anyone comes across concerning social media posts, they should report it to the cyber police or the nearest police station."

In Nagpur, curfew has been imposed in several areas after protests against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb led to violence. Multiple houses and vehicles were vandalized, officials said Tuesday.

Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal reported that over 50 people have been taken into custody and five FIRs registered in connection with the violence. "As many as 34 police personnel and five civilians sustained injuries. Two of the injured civilians are in the ICU, while three have been discharged," said District Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

Bawankule added that 45 vehicles were vandalized. He appealed to all communities to maintain peace and avoid supporting anti-social elements. "Strict action will be taken against those responsible for the violence," he said, adding that he would meet with the Nagpur police commissioner and district collector to review the situation.

Violence erupted in Nagpur's Chitnis Park area in Mahal on Monday around 7:30 p.m., with stones hurled at police amid rumors of the burning of a holy book during a right-wing agitation demanding the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Another clash broke out in the Hansapuri area near Old Bhandara Road between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., where an unruly mob torched several vehicles and vandalized houses and a clinic.
