Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw requesting that the film Chhaava be made tax-free. She also proposed hosting a special screening for Parliament members.

In her letter on Thursday, the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP also requested a special screening of the film, which is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, for legislators across the country.

"Making the film tax-free would make it more accessible to a wider audience, helping people connect with their historical and cultural roots. Given its significance, I also urge you to recommend that Chief Ministers of other states consider the same, as Chhaava represents not just Maharashtra's history but a crucial chapter in India's past," Chaturvedi wrote.

The Shiv Sena UBT MP also sent a similar request to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, calling for a special screening of Chhaava for members of state assemblies and the Parliament.

"I urge you to consider holding special screenings of the film in all states for their respective Members of Legislative Assemblies, as well as at the national level for all Members of Parliament, to highlight this significant period of Indian history," Chaturvedi stated in her letter.

Chhaava, which was released on February 14, has already been declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh and Goa. On Tuesday, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) also requested Fadnavis to make Chhaava tax-free.

Chhaava is based on the life of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Vicky Kaushal plays the lead role, while Rashmika Mandanna portrays Yesubai Bhonsale. The film, produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, also features Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb and Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum.  Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman has created the film’s background score and soundtrack.

Chhaava Continues Box Office Domination

The film has performed strongly at the box office. It earned ₹33.1 crore on its opening day, marking Kaushal’s highest solo debut. On the second day, it collected ₹39.3 crore, followed by ₹49.3 crore on Sunday. It added ₹24.1 crore on Monday and ₹25.75 crore on Tuesday. On its sixth day, which coincided with Shiv Jayanti, it earned ₹32 crore.

With a six-day total of ₹203.28 crore, Chhaava has already recovered its ₹130 crore budget. It is now on track to enter the ₹300 crore club soon.
