Sangli: Former Mayor Suresh Patil Attempts Suicide at His Residence, Condition Stable

Former Sangli mayor Suresh Adgonda Patil attempted suicide on Monday morning, April 7. He reportedly tried to hang himself with a saree at his residence in Neminathnagar. He was immediately rushed to Ushakal Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. He is out of danger, and his condition is now stable, said the hospital.

Patil is being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Ushakal Hospital. The hospital administration confirmed that his condition is stable. The police of Vishrambag have conducted a preliminary investigation into the incident. However, the reason behind Patil’s extreme step remains unclear.

Suresh Patil has been a prominent figure in Sangli’s politics, social work, education, industry, and trade sectors for more than three decades. News of his suicide attempt has shocked the people of Sangli. Over the past year, he had become somewhat distanced from public events. Just last Sunday, he attended the inauguration of the Surshree Music Festival, an initiative he had conceptualised.

On Monday morning, he attempted to hang himself with a saree at home. Family members noticed in time and immediately took him to the hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU. According to information from hospital authorities late at night, his condition is stable and he is responding well to treatment.

In a separate incident, Latur Municipal Commissioner Babasaheb Manohare was airlifted to Mumbai on Monday for advanced medical treatment. He has been admitted to Kokilaben Hospital, and his condition is also reported to be stable, according to Dr Hanumant Kinikar. On Saturday night, Manohare allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head. He was given immediate medical attention and underwent surgery. Meanwhile, the police have conducted a spot inspection, collected blood samples, and seized the firearm.
