The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken action against  a Bandra based five-star hotel in Mumbai area over unhygienic food services have and directed to close the storage room of the hotel  till the infestation of cockroaches in the storage room is controlled and eliminated.

FDA undertook a special drive on March 3 to check the quality of food being cooked and served at the Mumbai based hotel. During the inspection it was found that the hotel did not have a temperature indicator system on some of the food storage refrigerators. It was also noticed that expired stocks of food items like cheese, watermelon juice, idli flour, fruit juice, green apple etc. were stored for food preparation.

Due to the presence of cockroaches in the kitchen store at the hotel, FDA sealed the storage room until the cockroach infestation was eliminated. Also, stocks of expired food items were immediately destroyed in the interest of public health. The action was taken by a special team set up to inspect five-star and similar hotels.  The FDA has found hygiene-related lapses at the five-star hotel in Bandra during a routine inspection under Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms.
