A special COVID19 vaccination drive was organised for the transgender community by Thane Municipal Corporation on Saturday.

We are counselling people to get vaccinated. Our main is to make sure each person in Thane is vaccinated. All medical officers are also creating awareness about vaccination, said Dr Suresh Thakur, MS, Vaccination Centre, Thane.

There have been some media reports suggesting an increase in the case of severe adverse event following immunization (AEFI) which have also resulted in 'succumbing of patients' post-vaccination. However Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has clarified thate the reports are bases on an incomplete and limited understanding of the matter, it may be noted that the term "succumbed" implies causality.

On June 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a centralised procurement system for COVID-19 vaccines, beginning from June 21, with 25 per cent of the procurement being made available for private sector, as well as free vaccinations for everyone above the age of 18.
