Tukaram Omble Memorial: Maharashtra Govt to Build Memorial for 26/11 Hero and Ashok Chakra Awardee in Satara

The Maharashtra government has announced plans to construct a memorial in honor of Tukaram Omble, the Ashok Chakra Awardee and Mumbai police sub-inspector who lost his life during the 26/11 terror attacks. This tribute will be situated in Omble's native village, Kedambe, located in the Satara district.

The state government has allocated a budget of Rs 13.46 crore for the memorial, with the first installment of Rs 2.70 crore (20% of the total) released to the district administration on Friday, March 29. This initiative aims to commemorate Omble's bravery and sacrifice, as he played a crucial role in apprehending terrorist Ajmal Kasab during the attacks.

Tukaram Omble, who served as an assistant sub-inspector with the Mumbai Police, was killed on November 26, 2008, while attempting to arrest Pakistani terrorist Kasab. Despite being unarmed, he bravely confronted the terrorist and held onto his rifle, preventing further casualties. His actions not only led to Kasab's arrest but also exposed the origins of the attackers.
