Many people have lost their jobs amid the Covid-19 pandemic. India is currently battling second covid wave and Maharashtra is one of the worst affected state by the virus. In order to control the spread of the virus the government has imposed locdown in many parts of districts. One particular faction of people who are worst affected by the lockdown are the street vendors.
The street vendors or daily wage workers have suffered the most during the lockdown as they are entirely dependent on their daily income. Talking about street vendors and lockdown, a video has gone viral on the internet that is breaking heart of netizens. The video proves that the street vendors are suffering more than anyone else right now. The video is from Mumbai's Mira Road, Naya Nagar Market.
In the video, the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation MBMC) officials can be seen having a spat with the vendor and as soon as the cart owner tries to protect his cart the officials forcefully overturn his grocery cart while two other men can be seen destroying the cart as well. As per officials the cart owners have been violating covid lockdown protocols.
"The officials came and asked us to leave, we were leaving and found that our way is blocked. So, we tried to change the route and meanwhile, they stopped us. They asked me to leave my cart else they would vandalize it. I cited the honesty in business and pleaded in front of them but following complaints they didn't spare my cart and vandalized it. The material in the cart was approximately Rs 10,000 worth," said Ameen Shaikh owner of the cart. However, after the video went viral, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena came to the rescue of Shaik and gave him a new cart.
