14,000 Cops to Guard Mumbai During Eid and Gudi Padwa Celebrations

In preparation for Gudi Padwa and Eid-ul-Fitr, Mumbai police have increased citywide security. Up to 14,000 police officers will be deployed across Mumbai to keep the city's law and order situation stable. Police have urged citizens to observe both holidays within the bounds of the law. To maintain a state of peace and order, police officials said that seven more commissioners, seventeen deputy commissioners of police, fifty assistant commissioners, 1,982 police officials, and 11,820 constables will be on duty. Police in Mumbai have asked citizens to keep the peace and refrain from handling strange objects in crowded areas. They also urged citizens to report such incidents by calling emergency numbers 100 or 112.

Mumbai has increased security after a social media post warned of possible rioting, bombings, and arson during the March 31 and April 1, 2025, Eid celebrations. The warning was forwarded to the Navi Mumbai police and then shared with the Mumbai police, citing "illegal Rohingya/Bangladeshi/Pakistani infiltrators" as the perpetrators of the purported attacks.

Areas like Dongri, which are known for their communal sensitivity, can be targeted, according to the threat. The Mumbai police promptly increased their protection after getting this information from the Navi Mumbai police. Mumbai’s Crime Branch, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and Special Branch were all involved in increased surveillance and patrolling throughout the city. Authorities are still on high alert even though no suspicious activity has been detected as of yet. By implying that the attacks would be planned by people with ties to nearby nations, the social media post heightened worries even more. The matter is still being investigated, though, and the authorities have not verified any hard proof of this.

Mumbai will celebrate both holidays with great fervour. Hindu communities will hold prayers, processions (Shobha Yatra), palkhis, and pujas on Gudi Padwa. On Ramadan Eid, mosques and dargahs will host sizable crowds for Namaz. To control crowds and avoid any undesirable incidents during these festivities, the police have prepared plans.
