Bangladeshi National Held at Mumbai Airport for Possessing Fake Indian Passport

The Sahar Police have arrested a Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shamim Mohammad Sattar, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for allegedly holding a fake Indian passport while trying to board a flight to Bangladesh. Investigation revealed that he had obtained the Indian passport using forged documents from the Ahmedabad Passport Office after marrying an Indian woman.

Immigration officer Rajiv Ranjan Kumar Rajkumar Yadav, a resident of Antop Hill, was on duty at the international terminal on Thursday. During routine checks, he came across Mohammad Shamim, who was travelling to Bangladesh. Although his passport showed him as a resident of Gujarat and carried a valid Bangladeshi visa, the officer grew suspicious due to inconsistencies in his travel history and questioning.

Shamim failed to provide satisfactory answers about his travel to Bangladesh and the purpose of his visits. Upon further interrogation, he admitted to being a Bangladeshi citizen.

According to police, Shamim had initially married a Bangladeshi woman named Taslima in 1992. He later moved to Singapore for employment using his Bangladeshi passport. While in Singapore, he developed a relationship with an Indian woman, Sangeeta Chauhan, and married her in 1995. In 2002, he entered India via road and began living with Sangeeta in Vadodara.

With her assistance, Shamim allegedly prepared fake documents claiming Indian citizenship and used them to obtain an Indian passport under the name Ajaybhai Dilipbhai Chaudhary from the Ahmedabad Passport Office. He had used this passport to travel abroad, including multiple visits to Bangladesh.

Once the fraud was detected, he was handed over to Sahar Police for further investigation. Based on the complaint filed by immigration officer Rajiv Ranjan Kumar Yadav, a case was registered against Shamim for forgery, cheating the government, and using a fake Indian passport for international travel.

Following his arrest, Shamim was produced before the court in Andheri, where he was remanded to police custody.
