Boost for Mumbai-Pune Rail Corridor: Badlapur-Karjat Track Expansion Approved
Mumbai– In a major boost to railway infrastructure, the Central Government has approved the expansion of the third and fourth railway tracks on the Badlapur-Karjat route. This decision was made during the 89th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) under the ambitious 'PM Gati Shakti' initiative.
The 32.460 km brownfield project aims to decongest the Mumbai-Pune-Solapur-Wadi-Chennai corridor by addressing delays caused by rising passenger and freight traffic. The project will also enhance connectivity for key stations such as Badlapur, Vangani, Shelu, Neral, Bhivpuri, and Karjat, benefiting thousands of daily commuters and freight transporters.
The expansion aligns with the objectives of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (PMG-S NMP), ensuring improved connectivity, increased efficiency, and a major boost to local economic development.
Railway officials and commuters have welcomed the move, expressing optimism about reduced travel time and smoother operations on the route. The project is expected to bring significant economic benefits by improving logistics and trade movement in the region.
