In a significant action aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in housing society management, the Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies, M Ward, has disqualified the Chairman and Secretary of Mihishad A Co-operative Housing Society, located in Chembur, for violating provisions of the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960.
Chairman P.V. Ramana and Secretary Vaishali Narkar were disqualified following a formal complaint lodged by a society member, which prompted an inquiry under the relevant Act. The inquiry report highlighted several serious irregularities, including non-compliance with statutory procedures, failure to maintain proper records, and lack of transparency in society affairs.
The Deputy Registrar observed that both office-bearers had acted against the interest of the society and its members. The report specifically mentioned that Ramana and Narkar had bypassed the managing committee on multiple occasions and took unilateral decisions without the mandatory approvals, thereby breaching democratic norms and the society's bye-laws.
Following these findings, the Deputy Registrar issued orders disqualifying both individuals from holding any position in the managing committee with immediate effect. The society has been directed to fill the vacant posts through lawful and democratic procedures.
This decision is expected to act as a strong reminder for office-bearers of co-operative housing societies across the city to strictly adhere to rules, ensure transparency in decision-making, and uphold the trust of their members.
