Fake Heist Exposed! Mumbai Worker Confesses to Fabrication of Rs 28 Lakh Jewellery Theft

During police investigations, a worker allegedly admitted to fabricating a theft event after filing a bogus police complaint alleging that jewellery valued at lakhs of rupees was taken while he was riding in a Mumbai train, according to an official.

A notice has been given to the complainant, a jewellery firm employee, for allegedly stealing jewellery valued at Rs 28.07 lakh by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Government Railway Police (GRP), which was looking into the entire case, the official said, reported Mid Day.

The police claim that the issue was discovered on March 6 when Kisan Kesar Chandana, 40, the complainant, went to them to file a formal complaint.

He claimed to have bought gold from the store on March 5 and set out from Panvel Railway Station, he told the police. However, he felt ill and fell asleep on the seat when he arrived at Sandhurst Road station in south Mumbai. According to the police official, he discovered that the gold and other items he owned were gone when he woke up and found the train had arrived at Masjid Station.

The CSMT GRP started a quest to find the culprit after he filed a formal complaint. The police looked through the CCTV footage during the inquiry, but they were unable to locate any leads. After being questioned by the police, the complainant admitted to stealing the jewellery while working in a jewellery store, police said, reported Mid Day.

But according to the police, Chandana also admitted that he felt bad and had given the gold back to its owner.

"An FIR has been filed against unknown individuals under Section 303 (Whoever, intending to dishonestly take any movable property out of the possession of any person without that person's consent) of the BNS that Chandana was served with a notice," an official stated.Open in app
