An incident involving the playing of obscene songs during a Ram Navami rally has come to light in Mumbai. The rally, which passed near Marol Naka via the Airport Road Metro Station on the occasion of Ram Navami, became controversial after a video of the event surfaced and went viral on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). Following the viral video, the police took cognisance and initiated action.
According to the Sahar Police, an FIR was registered on April 8 under Sections 296 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials stated that the use of vulgar language in a public space during the rally hurt religious sentiments, which amounts to a violation of the law.
Post FIR, the police have issued notices to three individuals, including the rally organisers and the DJ operator, for questioning and further investigation. The police emphasised the importance of maintaining decorum and social harmony during public events.
Mumbai Police have also reached out to platform 'X' requesting the removal of the video to prevent any communal tension. Officials have assured that steps are being taken to ensure such incidents are not repeated. The organisers have been warned to adhere strictly to guidelines in future events.
Sahar Police continue to investigate the matter seriously and have assured strict action against those found guilty.
