Mumbai, July 13: Mumbai Municipal Corporation is currently in the process of executing the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project, a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at bridging the gap between the eastern and western suburbs through a well-connected road network. Today, on July 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to preside over the auspicious Bhoomi Pujan ceremony, marking the commencement of this transformative project.
Central to this project are the two tunnels that will go under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, aiming to significantly reduce travel time between Goregaon and Mulund to just 25 minutes. This initiative highlights the dedication to improving urban connectivity and accessibility, marking a crucial move towards better integration in Mumbai's metropolitan area.

Total length of the project - 12.20 Kms
In the first phase, widening of the existing flyover (ROB) along the tracks near Nahur railway station. In the second phase widening of 30m wide road to 45.70m. Construction of Flyover, Elevated Rotary in Phase 3 (a).
Phase 3 (B) includes a 1.22 km triple-lane (3 by 3) box tunnel (cut and cover) at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, Goregaon and a 4.7 km twin tunnel each under Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
The fourth phase includes the proposed double-level flyover crossing the Eastern Expressway from Nahur to Airoli toll plaza and the Vehicular Underway (VUP) at the junction of Western Expressway and GMLR.
What are the benefits?
- The Goregaon-Mulund Expressway is the fourth major expressway connecting the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai. A huge benefit to traffic especially in North Mumbai. The project will create a new link between the east-west suburbs. Hence, relief from traffic jams.
- The project will provide the western suburbs with direct connectivity to the proposed new airport at Navi Mumbai and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
- Vehicles plying on Nashik highway will also benefit from this project.
- Travel distance will be reduced by about 8.80 km compared to Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road.
- Travel time between Goregaon and Mulund will be reduced from 75 minutes to around 25 minutes
