Akurli Metro station on Line 2A and 7 corridor of Mumbai Metro is managed and operated by all-women staff. The aim is to showcase women’s capabilities in the transportation industry and inspire others to pursue careers in this field.
Supervisor Customer Relation Management Shilpa Kailash Ahire said, "I am working in the commercial department here...I basically handle the things related to the revenue...I am proud of my work."
Metro Station Controller Manisha Rajendra Sawant said, "I work here as the station controller...My main work is to handle the work being carried out at the station...I feel proud of the work I am doing...This is challenging but not impossible work..."
Metro Train Operator Nikhita Mahendra Dhanawade said, "We have a huge role to play as the metro train operator...I am very lucky that I got selected for this work...I am proud of my work."
Maha Mumbai Metro employs 958 female workers, who constitute 27% of its workforce. These women work in departments such as maintenance, HR, finance, and administration. According to the Times of India report, Maha Mumbai has 21 women train pilots out of the total 91 to operate its services between Gundavali-Dahisar-Andheri west (Line 2A and 7) corridor.
