Mumbai: 17-year-old girl Sexually Assaulted and Impregnated at Friend’s Birthday Party

A 17-year-old girl’s visit to a friend’s house for a birthday celebration turned into a nightmare after she was sexually assaulted by an unidentified man. The incident came to light after a medical examination revealed that she was over three months pregnant. Following this, JJ Marg Police registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections, launching an investigation into the matter.

According to the police, the victim, a resident of Kalwa, was invited to a birthday party at her friend Sunita’s house in the Fort area on December 15. As the celebrations were underway, an unidentified man allegedly lured her into a bathroom and sexually assaulted her. He then threatened her not to disclose the incident before fleeing the scene.

Fearing social stigma, the minor girl did not inform anyone about the assault. However, in recent days, she experienced severe stomach pain, prompting her to visit JJ Hospital for a medical check-up. It was during this examination that doctors confirmed she was three and a half months pregnant. Since the victim was a minor, the hospital authorities reported the matter to the JJ Marg Police.

Upon receiving the complaint, which took place in December, after recording the victim’s statement. Following her complaint, a case has been registered against an unidentified person.

As part of the investigation, the police will now question her friend, Sunita. Officials stated that efforts will be made to gather information about the accused based on this inquiry.

Since the crime occurred in the Fort area, the case will be transferred to the concerned police department for further investigation, officials added.
