Mumbai: 32-Year-Old Man Strangled to Death by Acquaintance Over Minor Dispute on Mobile Phone; Accused Arrested
A minor dispute over a mobile phone turned fatal in Wadala as a 32-year-old man was brutally assaulted and strangled to death by an acquaintance late Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Salman Mohammad Idrisi Ansari, while the accused, Mohankumar Rajkumar Verma (25), has been arrested by Wadala Police.
The shocking incident took place around 11:45 PM on April 16 near Shantinagar, Dinbandhu Nagar, Shivdi-Chembur Road in Wadala. Both the victim and the accused were residents of the Wadala area and knew each other personally. According to police, the two had been involved in frequent verbal arguments over the past few days, mostly stemming from minor issues related to mobile phone conversations.
On Wednesday night, another heated argument broke out between the two over the phone. In a fit of rage, Mohankumar allegedly physically assaulted Mohammad Salman and then strangled him to death. Following the crime, the accused fled the spot.
Local residents rushed the critically injured Salman to Sion Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Upon receiving information about the incident, Wadala Police reached the scene and registered a case of murder.
A manhunt was launched immediately, and within a few hours of filing the FIR, the absconding accused Mohankumar Verma was arrested on Thursday. The incident has sparked tension in the Wadala locality, with residents expressing shock over the brutal killing arising from a seemingly trivial dispute.
Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
