Mumbai: 46-Year-Old Killed for Opposing Daughter's Interfaith Marriage

A 46-year-old man in Titwala was allegedly killed by three young men on Monday just because he opposed his  daughter's marriage to one of them. The victim, Zakir Mia, disapproved of the relationship because of the young man's different faith. The incident took place on Eid while Zakir Mia's family was celebrating the festival. Around 11:30 a.m., the three men entered Zakir's three-story apartment, where they shouted derogatory remarks at him and proceeded to attack him with sharp-edged weapons and sticks, as per a police officer's report.
Zakir was well-respected for his kindness in the community.

The Kalyan Taluka police mentioned that the trio had known Zakir's elder daughter for a long time, with one of them being in a relationship with her, a relationship that Zakir was against. According to the investigating officer, "The accused had proposed several times to marry Zakir's daughter, but each time the proposals were turned down. On Eid, he went to Zakir's home to discuss the marriage proposal once more, leading to a physical altercation. Despite attempts to intervene, everyone was pushed aside and injured."
