In a tragic accident on Friday morning, a speeding garbage truck belonging to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) overturned near the Siddharth Colony area of Chembur on the Eastern Express Highway. The mishap claimed the life of one labourer while two others sustained injuries.

According to police, the incident took place around 7 AM when the truck was transporting garbage from Ghatkopar towards Sion. As the vehicle reached Siddharth Colony, the driver reportedly lost control and the truck rammed into the road divider before overturning.

The driver, identified as Allauddin Shah (27), managed to jump out of the vehicle in time, narrowly escaping serious injury. However, his co-worker, Abdul Nay (26), got trapped under the overturned truck. Locals immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and, with the help of a crane, managed to move the truck aside.

Abdul Nay was pulled out and rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, but doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.

Apart from Shah, another worker, Arif Khan (22), was also injured in the accident. Both are currently undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital.

The accident led to severe traffic congestion on the Eastern Express Highway for quite some time. However, the police swiftly removed the overturned truck and restored normal traffic flow. Chembur Police have registered the case and further investigation is underway.
