In a tragic accident on the Sion Bridge, two people lost their lives, and three others were severely injured when two speeding two-wheelers collided head-on. According to police, one of the injured individuals is in critical condition. All the injured have been rushed to Sion Hospital for treatment. The accident occurred at around 4 AM on Wednesday, and Sion Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Animesh More (23) and Asfaq Ansari (28). The injured are Amol Kunchikorve (20), Vignesh Sarwade (20), and Mehndi Syed (30). Police have confirmed that Vignesh is critically injured.
Animesh, Vignesh, and Amol were residents of Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli, while Asfaq and Mehndi resided in Shivaji Nagar, Govandi. On Wednesday morning around 4 AM, the three residents of Vikhroli were en route to Girgaon Chowpatty for the Ganesh Visarjan on an Activa scooter. Meanwhile, Asfaq and Mehndi, after visiting Mumbai’s Jama Masjid, were heading home to Shivaji Nagar on a Benelli 300 bike. While speeding on the Sion Bridge, Vignesh was driving in the wrong direction, leading to a head-on collision between the two motorcycles. The impact was so severe that Animesh was thrown off the bridge, and both motorcycles were completely crushed.
Upon receiving information about the accident, Sion Police rushed to the scene and immediately transported all five injured persons to Sion Hospital for treatment. Doctors declared Animesh dead on arrival, while the remaining four were admitted to the ICU.
The Sion Police have registered a case against Vignesh for driving in the wrong direction, and further investigation is underway.
