According to sources in Mumbai Police, the complainant is the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) posted at a Mumbai court. In 2023, the magistrate had purchased a blue Apple iPhone 14 for personal use.
The theft occurred on April 17, 2025, during an exciting IPL clash between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. At around 7:15 PM, the magistrate, accompanied by his wife, son, and other family members, arrived at Gate Number 14 of the Wankhede Stadium to watch the match. It was at this moment that an unidentified individual reportedly stole the magistrate’s iPhone from his pants pocket.
Soon after realizing the phone was missing, the magistrate searched the area but failed to locate the device. Suspecting theft, he concluded that an unknown person had deliberately stolen the phone with fraudulent intent.
The magistrate then filed an e-complaint on the Mumbai Police online portal. Based on the complaint, Marine Drive Police registered an FIR against the unidentified person under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
