Mumbai Coastal Road: Viral Video of Patchwork Sparks Outrage Among Motorists
A video of patchwork on the Mumbai Coastal Road’s Northbound stretch near Haji Ali on the bridge towards Worli is viral on social media. A video of the parts with patchwork was recently posted on X by @drifteternal_ .
The user wrote, “This is beyond disappointing. Mumbai’s ₹14000 crore Coastal Road already looks like patchwork. I feel betrayed—this was supposed to be world-class infrastructure. L&T and BMC must be held accountable. Is this what we paid for? #Mumbai #CoastalRoad #InfrastructureFail”

Due to monsoon, the contractor did not lay final layer of bitumen on this stretch. The road is now in fantastic condition. Refer to below drone video https://t.co/tZDXXTfD4H
I don’t recall. However I won’t defend the indefensible @mybmc@mybmcCoastalRd@AshwiniBhide

I even recall that they issued a press release clarifying the same matter
Another user commented, “As per BMC , the fact that the coastal road is operational is an achievement. Now we as citizens also want a smooth, patch free road, that is too much to ask from BMC. Our BMC always ensuring that we don't sleep at the wheel by giving us bumpy roads. Always so thoughtful.”

On July 10 of last year, the Larsen & Toubro-built section of the road was made accessible to drivers.
"It is a bitumen concrete road which was laid during the monsoons. However, it was discovered a few days ago that the joints between the completed road paving had opened up. Therefore now asphalting was done," stated BMC authorities, verifying the patches on the road.
The southbound route was first opened from Worli to Marine Drive on March 11, 2024. The northbound carriageway was only opened up to Haji Ali on June 10. On July 11, the third opening occurred off the road between Haji Ali and Worli. The northbound connector between the sea link and the coastal road was officially opened on September 12 and traffic began to flow on September 13. On January 26, 2025, the northbound portion of the bridge that connects the sea connection to the coastal road opened.
