A 7.5-kilometer promenade and a vehicle underpass are two new elements of the Mumbai Coastal Road that are expected to open to the public before the monsoon season this year, according to municipal officials. Vehicles going between Marine Drive and Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) can currently use the 10.58-kilometer high-speed corridor. The last landscaping work is expected to be done over the next two months, according to The Indian Express report.

To complete the Rs 13,000-crore coastal road project, 111 hectares of the Arabian Sea had to be reclaimed, with 70 hectares set aside for public promenades and open areas. The promenade will cover the distance between

Alongside the coastal road's southbound carriageway, the promenade will run parallel to the shore. According to the official, it would have tactile tiles and be 20 meters wide to assist individuals with disabilities. The entire promenade, which will include palm trees and native vegetation, is inspired by a Hong Kong concept. These trees and shrubs' saplings have been moved from nurseries located around the nation, notably in Delhi, Gujarat, Pune, and Kolkata.

The civic official further mentioned that people can get a closer look at the Arabian Sea once the promenade is open. The promenade will be accessible from the landside by 20 pedestrian underpasses (PuP). Additionally, the PuPs are nearing completion and will be opened once the landscaping is done.

Additionally, 11-meter-wide traffic medians are being transformed into green spaces.

The vehicular underpass will become operational by April end, stated The Indian Express Report.

A 550-meter vehicular underpass (VuP) will become accessible to the public in April. Drivers heading towards the coastal road from Dadar and Prabhadevi will be served by this underpass. As part of the 10.58-kilometer coastal road project, it will be the sole VuP.

"This underpass has been designed to accommodate future traffic needs," a civic official said. This underpass will be accessible to vehicles via the Sewri-Worli connector, giving them a direct path to the southern tip of Mumbai or the western suburbs via the coastal road, greatly cutting down on travel time.

Through the vehicular interchange at Bindoo Madhav Thackeray Chowk in Worli Sea Face, this underpass will connect J K Kapur Chowk with the coastal road, running beneath Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road.

The goal of this underpass is to give cars direct access, which will reduce traffic in Worli. Vehicles will have two choices once they reach here: either proceed towards Marine Drive/Nariman Point or head towards Bandra.
