Mumbai: Concerns Rise Over Illegal Activities and Encroachment at Elphinstone Mill Parking Lot; Video Surfaces

The public parking lot (PPL) at Elphinstone Mill in Dadar (W) is scrutinised by the public due to allegations of unlawful activities, encroachment, and tender condition violations. The parking operator is accused of misusing the premises for unapproved commercial activities by a citizens' welfare association, which has called for an immediate inspection of the PPL.

Chakachak Dadar Social Organisation, a citizens’ welfare organisation that works to highlight various civic issues in Dadar, posted a video of the parking lot on X. They wrote, "@mybmc Public Parking Lot or Cheap Rental Warehouse? Commercial godowns, illegal garages, BMC assets theft & anti-social activities running openly in One Intl Centre @mybmcWardGS PPL in  —violating BMC tender conditions! Contractor illegally renting space at throwaway prices!"

On this post, the official handle of Ward GS BMC replied by stating that they have deployed a team to check this spot. “We regret to your inconvenience. We have intimated our team to attend this issue,” the civic body commented.

On the other hand, the government of Maharashtra is coming up with a new parking system. Cities like Mumbai, Thane, and Pune that are facing traffic congestion issues will be relieved as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led government is working on a new Parking Policy. CM Fadnavis made this announcement during the Bhumi Pujan ceremony of the state transport department’s headquarters in Worli. He also highlighted the need for mapping parking slots and developing a software or an application that guides motorists about available spaces and how they can rent the parking spot.
