Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a Bangladeshi youth who fled to Mumbai after the recent violence in Nagpur, raising suspicions of a possible Bangladesh connection to the unrest. The arrested individual was found in possession of an Aadhaar card with a Nagpur address. Sources indicate that he is being interrogated regarding his involvement in the Nagpur violence.
The arrested Bangladeshi has been identified as Ajijul Rahman. According to sources, Ajijul had been living illegally in Nagpur for the past 6-7 years along with his associates. During the Nagpur violence, he was present in the city but fled soon after. Initially, he took shelter in Pune before making his way to Mumbai. The Mumbai Crime Branch (Unit 2) received intelligence about his movement and set up a trap at Dadar Railway Station on Wednesday night, leading to his arrest.
During interrogation, Ajijul confessed that he had been residing in Nagpur for several years. His Aadhaar card, which bore a Nagpur address, was also seized. Further investigation revealed that he is originally a Bangladeshi citizen. The Crime Branch produced him before the Killa Court on Thursday, where he was remanded to two-day police custody.
Police sources suggest that Ajijul was present in Nagpur during the violence, and his movements after the incident have raised suspicions about his possible involvement. Authorities are now investigating whether he played any role in orchestrating the violence. Additionally, intelligence reports indicate that several illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who were hiding in Nagpur fled after the violence.
Mumbai Crime Branch has now launched a deeper probe to identify and track down Ajijul’s Bangladeshi associates, who are suspected to be living in Nagpur under false identities. The investigation is ongoing.
