Mumbai: Fake Indian Navy Recruitment Racket Busted, Four Accused Booked for Fraud
Dadar police have busted a fake Indian Navy recruitment scam in Worli Koliwada, booking four individuals for fraud and forgery. Anuj Mayekar, Nitin Shetye, Ganesh Nagarkar, and Shraddha Gothivarekar allegedly swindled at least 15 people out of Rs 76 lakh by promising officer-level Navy jobs. The accused are currently at large, and police have launched a manhunt to apprehend them.
The scam was uncovered following a complaint by Mayur Mangesh Dalvi, 28, who was initially contacted by the accused in December 2024. They convinced him of a large-scale Navy recruitment drive and solicited referrals. Dalvi introduced friends and relatives, resulting in 15 people applying and paying a total of Rs 76 lakh (Rs 60 lakh via bank transfers and Rs 16 lakh in cash) between December 5, 2024, and February 13, 2025.
When promised appointment letters failed to materialize, and the accused became evasive, the victims realized they had been defrauded and reported the crime. Police suspect there may be more victims and are urging anyone similarly affected to come forward.
