Mumbai: Fugitive Accused Arrested After 32 Years in Robbery Case
The Pydhonie Police have arrested a man who had been absconding for 32 years in connection with a robbery case. The accused, identified as Ijaz Shahjahan Shaikh (50), was finally apprehended by the authorities.
According to police officials, Shaikh was booked for robbery in 1992. He was arrested at the time, and the trial had commenced in the Sessions Court. However, Shaikh failed to appear for hearings, leading the court to declare him an absconder.
A team led by Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Rasam of Pydhonie Police Station had been tracking him for years. However, Shaikh constantly changed his location to evade arrest and managed to stay off the radar.
Recently, the police received a tip-off that Shaikh was working as a security guard at a construction site in Bohri Mohalla, J.J. Marg. Acting on this information, the police laid a trap and arrested him. Following his re-arrest, the court has now remanded him to judicial custody, officials confirmed.
