Mumbai: Gang Poses as Movers and Packers, Dupes Woman of ₹30 Lakh Worth Household Items and BMW Car in Bandra

In a shocking incident, a gang of six individuals posing as movers and packers employees allegedly duped a woman and fled with household goods worth around ₹30 lakh, including a BMW car, in the Bandra area. Acting on the woman's complaint, Khar Police have registered a case of fraud and misappropriation against the six accused and initiated an investigation. The police are currently scanning CCTV footage to trace the culprits.

The complainant, a 41-year-old woman residing in Bandra with her husband and two children, was preparing to shift from Mumbai to Bangalore. She contacted Agarwal Movers and Packers for the relocation. However, she received a message from 'Geeta Movers and Packers' on her mobile. Upon inquiring for a quotation, she was quoted ₹35,000 for household items and ₹15,000 for transporting her BMW car, totaling ₹55,000, which she agreed to.

On January 15, at around 11:15 am, six individuals claiming to be employees of Geeta Movers and Packers arrived at her Bandra residence. They packed various household items, including a double-door refrigerator, washing machine, dryer, microwave, crockery, toys, clothes, books, and other belongings, and loaded them into a tempo. One individual drove off with her BMW car, assuring delivery to Bangalore.

The woman was promised delivery by January 19, but even after a week, the goods had not reached Bangalore. When she contacted Geeta Movers and Packers, she was shocked when the person on the other end demanded an additional ₹2.3 lakh. Sensing something suspicious, she made further inquiries and discovered that no employee from the original movers and packers company drives cars to the destination. It was then clear that impostors posing as movers had fled with her valuables and car.

Realizing the fraud, she approached Khar Police and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case against six unidentified persons under charges of fraud and misappropriation. Senior officials have taken serious note of the incident and directed Khar Police to conduct a thorough investigation. Police have obtained CCTV footage from the area and are using it to trace the accused.
