The price of green chillies has tripled in the market, especially in Navi Mumbai. As the summer is at its peak in Mumbai, there is low availability of green chillies in the market. The rates have increased at wholesale and retail markets, with prices increasing threefold compared to normal levels. The cost of green chillies per kilo was somewhere between Rs 40 to Rs 50, but now the price ranges between Rs 125 to Rs 160, reported Hinduatan Times.

Wholesalers said that they are sourcing chillies from Nagpur, Gujarat, Palghar, Karnataka, and other regions of Maharashtra. But the stock source has dropped by 40% due to a reduction in production. A huge portion of stock is damaged as the temperature in Maharashtra is quite high due to the Summer season. The high temperatures dry out the chillies, turn them red, and impact their quality.

The wholesale market in Navi Mumbai is a very famous place to buy fruits and vegetables in large quantities. Since there is a greater variety of veggies here than at other markets, many retailers continue to come and purchase huge quantities for their stores. The market, which sells fruits, spices, and cereals at wholesale prices, is also known as the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC).
