Mumbai Hit and Run: 39-Year-Old Killed in Accident in Sewree, Driver Flees the Scene
A 39-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a speeding vehicle in a hit-and-run incident. Following the accident, the driver fled the scene without providing any medical assistance to the injured person. The Sewree police have registered a case against the unidentified driver for reckless driving, and efforts are underway to trace the vehicle using CCTV footage.
The deceased has been identified as Shivgulam Shriram Kurmi, a resident of the Koldepo area in Sewree. He worked as a laborer. On Sunday, Kurmi went to the nearby toilet from his warehouse. While returning, an unknown vehicle hit him forcefully, causing him to fall. The vehicle ran over both of his legs, rendering him unable to get up. Kurmi screamed in pain, and his friend, Harkesh Kumar, witnessed the incident. He immediately informed Kurmi’s brother, Ramshankar Kurmi, about the accident.
Upon receiving the information, Ramshankar rushed to the scene and found his brother, Shivgulam, severely injured. Shivgulam was lying on the road in a pool of blood. Ramshankar immediately called the police control room to report the incident and sought help. The police arrived at the location with a mobile van and transported the injured Shivgulam to the J.J. Hospital in South Mumbai. Doctors declared him dead after examining him.
The accident caused severe injuries to Shivgulam’s right leg and deep wounds below the knee on his left leg. He was found in a blood-soaked state after the accident. Doctors believe that the severe injuries led to his death. An autopsy has been performed on the body.
Following the death of Shivgulam, the police registered a case against the unknown driver based on a complaint filed by his elder brother, Ramshankar. The case was filed under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 134(a), 134(b), 184, 106(1), 125(b), and 281. The police are now investigating the matter with the help of CCTV footage to identify the driver. It is reported that the driver fled the scene without offering any medical assistance to Shivgulam.
Ramshankar's statement has been recorded by the police. He mentioned that his brother was severely injured but conscious when the accident occurred. Shivgulam told him that he was knocked down by the vehicle, and it passed over him. The Sewree police are continuing their investigation into the case.
