Mumbai: Jewellery Worth ₹1.90 Crore Stolen From Renowned Showroom in Bandra, Police Launch Probe

A major burglary was reported at a renowned jewellery showroom in Bandra on Monday morning. An unidentified thief broke into the showroom through a window, tampered with the vault, and stole diamond-studded gold jewellery worth ₹1.90 crore from five out of 26 jewellery boxes before fleeing the scene. Bandra police have registered a case of burglary and initiated an investigation. Additionally, the crime branch is conducting a parallel probe, with three to four teams deployed to nab the culprit using CCTV footage and other evidence.

 

The incident is suspected to have occurred between Saturday night (8:15 PM) and Monday morning (10:15 AM) at the administrative office of the KISALA brand showroom on Guru Nanak Road, Turner House, Bandra. The showroom owner, Samarth Bajaj, a well-known jeweller, resides with his family in Khar. His Bandra showroom is known for selling high-end gold and diamond jewellery. On Saturday night at 8:15 PM, a staff member, Anil, locked the showroom after completing the day's transactions.

 

Since Sunday was a holiday, the showroom remained closed. On Monday at 10:15 AM, when a staff member attempted to unlock the vault to retrieve the jewellery boxes, he noticed that jewellery from five out of the 26 boxes was missing. Sensing something suspicious, he immediately informed Samarth Bajaj, who rushed to the showroom. Upon inspection, Bajaj confirmed that diamond-studded and gold jewellery worth ₹1.90 crore was stolen. He then alerted the Bandra police and the insurance company.

 

Upon reaching the crime scene, police discovered that 2,786 grams of gold and diamond jewellery were stolen. Preliminary investigation suggests that the thief entered through the showroom's window, deactivated the CCTV cameras, and broke open the vault before escaping with the valuables. Based on Samarth Bajaj’s complaint, Bandra police registered a case of burglary.

 

Police officials, including Mumbai crime branch officers, are conducting a parallel investigation. Efforts are underway to track down the accused using CCTV footage and other technical evidence, authorities said.
