Mumbai Local Train Accident: Woman Falls from Overcrowded Train at Badlapur, Sustains Severe Head Injuries
A woman sustained severe head injuries after falling from an overcrowded local train near Badlapur railway station in Maharashtra, officials reported on Friday. The incident occurred this morning when the 8:59 am Karjat-Mumbai local train arrived at Badlapur. The woman, identified as Kalpana Zedia, was attempting to board the train but struggled due to extreme overcrowding. As the train departed, the pressure from the crowded passengers caused her to lose her balance and fall onto the tracks, leading to critical head injuries.
Commuters traveling from Badlapur often face severe congestion, especially during peak hours. Notably, after the 8:59 am local train, there is a 30-minute gap before the next service, forcing many passengers to scramble for space on the already packed train. The train, which originates from Karjat, is usually full by the time it reaches Badlapur, causing passengers to cling to the doors during their journey.
Passengers have long expressed concerns about the dangerous conditions on local trains, with frequent incidents making daily commutes hazardous. Commuters have urged railway authorities to take immediate action to improve safety and manage overcrowding effectively.
