Local train services will be affected on the Central Line of Mumbai division as the platform extension work is underway at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), reported Mid Day. Several trains will be suspended, short-terminated and short-originated over the next few days due to a special block announced by Central Railway (CR) due to the extension of the length of platforms 12 and 13 at CSMT station to accommodate longer trains.
According to the report, 23 local trains have been short-terminated, 14 have been short-originated, and six trains have been cancelled. The platform extension in CSMT means a part longer trains can halt at the station. These platforms will be able to accommodate longer 24-coach trains instead of the present 18-coach ones. This will increase the passenger capacity on these platforms by 20%.

Currently, CSMT has 18 platforms, platforms 1 to 7 dedicated to suburban local train services, and platforms 8 to 18 used to halt long-distance trains. However, among the 11 long-distance platforms, only a select few were able to handle 24-coach trains.
