Action will be taken against passengers travelling in railway trains who throw balloons and plastic bags on them on the occasion of Holi and Dhuli Vandana. The Railway Police has warned that a fine of Rs 2,500 and imprisonment for up to three months, or both, can be imposed on those charged with causing harm or danger to the life of passengers under the Indian Penal Code 125.
The Railways has started taking precautions in the backdrop of Holi. Some miscreants from the settlements along the railway tracks throw water-filled balloons and plastic bags at passengers. Since the speed of the train is high, the faces and eyes of the passengers standing at the door or sitting near the window often suffer serious injuries. Officials said that the Railway Police and GRP are creating awareness in the settlements to prevent such incidents.
The number of people throwing balloons is high in areas like Sion, Wadala, Kurla of Central Railway, and Bandra, Mahim of Western Railway. Therefore, they said that special vigil will be kept on such places.
Since Holi is a festival of joy, it is necessary to celebrate the festival of colors in a safe manner. For the safety of passengers, we are creating awareness in the settlements along the tracks with the help of GRP and RPF - Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway.
