A 41-year-old man allegedly died by suicide at the Sahara Star Hotel in Vile Parle, reportedly due to harassment by his wife and her maternal aunt. The deceased has been identified as Nishant Tripathi. Following a complaint by his mother, the Airport Police have registered a case against his wife and her aunt and initiated an investigation.
According to the complaint filed by Neelam Chaturvedi-Tripathi (64), a social worker from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, her son Nishant was involved in the animation and filmmaking industry and ran his own company. He was residing in Virar but had moved to the Sahara Star Hotel due to alleged harassment by his wife, Apoorva Parikh (36). Nishant stayed at the hotel for three days before the tragic incident.
On February 28, Nishant placed a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on his room’s door and died by suicide by hanging himself in the bathroom. When he failed to respond, hotel staff used a master key to enter his room and found him hanging from a hook with a rope. Upon being informed, the Airport Police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
During the investigation, police found a suicide note saved on Nishant’s company website, along with the password to access it. In the English-language note, Nishant expressed his love for his wife but cited persistent harassment by her and her aunt, Prarthana Mishra (50), as the reason for ending his life. He held both of them responsible for his death.
Following Neelam Tripathi’s complaint, the Airport Police registered a case against Apoorva Parikh and Prarthana Mishra under charges of abetment to suicide. Further investigation is underway.
