A shocking case of fraud has come to light in Wadala, where a man was duped of nearly ₹30 lakh by an acquaintance who falsely promised his son a permanent government job. The accused, identified as Sundaram kumar Chakraborty Dubey (28), has been booked for cheating by the Wadala Police, and summons will soon be issued for his interrogation.
According to the police, Sundaram kumar Dubey allegedly deceived multiple people under the pretense of securing government jobs. The complainant, Pramodkumar Shivjor Gupta (47), a garment trader residing in Wadala's Korba Mithagar area, came in contact with the accused in July 2024. Over time, they developed a friendly relationship, and Dubey assured Gupta that he could get his son a government job.
Believing his claims, Gupta transferred ₹30 lakh online to Dubey between July and November 2024. The entire transaction took place at Gupta’s residence. However, when the promised job did not materialize within the agreed period, Gupta started questioning Dubey. The accused allegedly kept avoiding him, giving various excuses and eventually trying to dodge further communication.
Realizing he had been cheated, Gupta lodged a complaint with the Wadala Police, who, after verification, registered a case of fraud against Dubey. The police are now investigating whether Dubey has defrauded others using a similar modus operandi. His interrogation is expected to take place soon.
The Wadala Police have urged citizens to be cautious and avoid falling for such fraudulent job promises.
