A young woman from Bhandup fell victim to an online fraud after being tricked by a conman she met on a matrimonial website. The accused deceived her into giving him ₹4.5 lakh under false pretenses. Following the incident, the woman filed a complaint at the Bhandup police station, and officials have launched a search for the accused.
According to the police, the 29-year-old complainant is a highly educated woman who lives in Bhandup with her brother. Having faced difficulties in finding a suitable match, she had registered on a matrimonial website. A few days ago, she was contacted by a man named Nabeel Khan (31), who expressed interest in marriage. After initial conversations, the two decided to meet in person. During their meeting, they discussed their future and decided to proceed with marriage after consulting their families.
However, the accused soon started making financial demands. He told the woman that his money was stuck abroad and convinced her to lend him money for buying a mobile phone, a two-wheeler, and other expenses. Trusting him, she transferred a total of ₹4.6 lakh.
Later, Khan contacted her again, demanding more money. When the requests became frequent, the woman grew suspicious and started inquiring about him. Her investigation revealed that he had previously duped another woman in a similar manner by falsely promising marriage. Realizing she had been cheated, she immediately approached the Bhandup police and filed a complaint.
The police have registered a case against the accused and launched a search operation to track him down. Further investigations are underway.
