In a shocking incident, a married woman was brutally murdered by her lover after being trapped in a relationship. The accused, identified as Hanan Shafiq Sheikh, was arrested by Vikroli Police within eight hours of the crime. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he killed the woman as she was pressuring him for marriage. However, the police suspect there could be another motive behind the murder and are probing the matter further.
The deceased has been identified as Suman Suraj Nirmal (37), a Hindu woman residing with her husband in a chawl near Machhi Market in Vikroli East. Her husband works as a security guard in Mahalaxmi, while Suman was employed at a bag manufacturing unit in Sion-Dharavi. The accused, Hanan Shafiq Sheikh (25), who also worked at the same factory, developed a romantic relationship with Suman. Taking advantage of her husband’s night shifts, Hanan would often visit her house.
On Tuesday morning, around 5 am, Suman’s husband returned home from work only to find her lying in a pool of blood. Her hands and legs were tied and her throat had been slit. Shocked by the sight, Suraj raised an alarm, alerting neighbors who quickly informed the police.
Vikroli police reached the spot, conducted a panchnama of the body, and sent the remains for post-mortem at Rajawadi Hospital. Initially, a murder case was registered against an unidentified person, and a special team was formed to track the killer.
Meanwhile, Crime Branch Unit 7 also launched a parallel investigation. After scrutinizing CCTV footage from the area and examining the call records from Suman's mobile phone, police zeroed in on Hanan Sheikh as the prime suspect. He was traced and arrested from Dharavi later in the afternoon.
During questioning, the accused revealed that he committed the murder because Suman was repeatedly pressuring him to marry her. However, police officials suspect there may be more to the story and are continuing their investigation to uncover the full motive.
