Mumbai News: BMC Calls for Public Suggestions and Feedback for New Cleanliness Bylaws

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has unveiled a new set of ordinances aimed at improving cleanliness and promoting garbage segregation. The BMC also provided facilities for citizens to share feedback and suggestions with the civic body. On Thursday, they provided the contact information for public communication via the microblogging site X. BMC has decided to establish a dedicated war room to supervise the ongoing nullah desilting works that started on April 1. The move is intended to promote transparency and efficiency ahead of the monsoon season. According to civic data, around 12% of the overall desilting work has been performed thus far. The BMC aims to remove 9.34 lakh metric tonnes of silt from the city's nullahs and the Mithi River. Currently, 1.11 lakh metric tonnes of silt have been cleaned. According to a stormwater drain department official, the war room will be staffed by three officers and 11 support staffers, with shifts running from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

BMC had initiated a targeted cleanup effort at some of Mumbai's prominent playgrounds. The inaugural phase, which ran from April 1 to April 4, will focus on areas such as Azad Maidan, Cross Maidan, Oval Maidan, Shivaji Park, Somaiya Maidan, Andheri Sports Complex, Kora Kendra in Borivali, and Mulund Sports Complex.
