In order to combact the overcrowding during the summer season and ensure smoother passenger flow Central railway has announced a temporary restriction on the sale of platform tickets in major areas of railway stations in Mumbai and Pune divisions. This ban will begin from April 18 and will continue till may 15 2025.Passanger relatives who come to drop them will not be able to purchase platform tickets on stations like LTT (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus), Kalyan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), in Mumbai Division, as well as Pune station in Pune Division.
As per the FPJ reports decision has been approved by the competent authority of Central Railway, citing increased footfall during the vacation period as the primary reason. This decision is taken in order to ensure that needy passy are not affected by the restriction, divisional officers and station supervisors have been instructed to extend platform ticket access to individuals accompanying senior citizens, children, illiterate persons, the ailing, and women passengers who may need assistance.
Central Railway has also directed clear passenger communication regarding the temporary restriction and its exceptions through prominent notices at booking windows and regular public address announcements.
