A case of financial irregularities amounting to ₹1,250 crore over the last 20 years has come to light at Lilavati Hospital, run by the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust. Following an investigation, the trust has filed an FIR against 17 individuals, including seven former trustees, equipment suppliers, and vendors. Many of the accused are Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) currently residing in Dubai and Belgium.

After the current board of directors took over the management of the trust, they alleged large-scale financial mismanagement by the previous board. To uncover these irregularities, the board appointed a forensic auditor. The forensic audit revealed serious violations, including illegal fund transfers to foreign accounts, unauthorized financial transactions disguised as legal expenses, fraudulent investments, and large-scale bribery by the accused. The audit confirmed financial misconduct amounting to approximately ₹1,250 crore, severely impacting the financial integrity of the trust.

Following these revelations, Prashant Kishore Mehta (55), a permanent trustee of the hospital, filed a complaint with the Bandra Police against 17 individuals, including former trustees. However, after the police refused to register an FIR, Mehta approached the Bandra court. The court then directed the Bandra Police to register an FIR. This information was shared by Lilavati Hospital’s Executive Director and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh during a press conference on Tuesday.
