A 26-year-old woman has died by suicide, just two months after her marriage, at her mother's residence in Santacruz (East), Mumbai. The discovery, made on Sunday night, has left investigators searching for answers, as no suicide note was found at the scene.The deceased has been identified as Neha Mishra, an accountant working in the diamond market at Bandra-Kurla Complex. She had been living at her maternal home since her marriage two months ago. According to police reports, Neha was alone at the time of the incident. Her mother had briefly left the residence to visit a nearby temple. Upon returning home around 10:30 PM, she discovered Neha's lifeless body. Neha had allegedly hanged herself with a saree. The Santacruz police have registered an accidental death report and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Neighbors and local residents described Neha as a soft-spoken and reserved individual. They stated that she generally kept to herself but appeared to be in good spirits during their recent interactions. The lack of a suicide note has deepened the mystery surrounding Neha Mishra's death, and authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the reasons behind her tragic decision.

Number of suicide cases in Mumbai has been on the rise for quite sometime now. Few months ago a police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the suspected suicide of his 26-year-old girlfriend, who was found hanging in her rented room in Mahim Koliwada. Before taking the drastic step, the woman recorded a video blaming her boyfriend for her death. According to police sources, they received information about the suicide on the day of the incident. Upon reaching the spot, the house owner informed them that the woman was a tenant in her room. Around 4:15 PM, the victim’s friend, Owais Sheikh (25), arrived and claimed that she had hanged herself. The house owner and Owais Sheikh broke open the door and found the woman, identified as Aliya, hanging from an iron pipe on the ceiling with a red bedsheet. She was immediately brought down and rushed to Sion Hospital with the help of Mahim Police and one of her friends. However, doctors declared her dead at 6:30 PM.A post-mortem conducted at Sion Hospital revealed a V-shaped ligature mark measuring approximately 9 inches long and 1 inch wide on her neck. The victim’s friend informed the police that the accused, Owais Sheikh, had been physically and mentally harassing her and was refusing to marry her. It is believed that this led the woman to take the extreme step. Police registered a case against Owais Abdul Rehman Sheikh under Sections 108 (abetment of suicide), 117(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
