Mumbai Water Cut Update: BMC Completes Emergency Pipeline Repairs in Powai, Supply to Restore Soon

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed emergency repairs on a crucial water pipeline at Powai, restoring water supply to at least 100 localities, including Ghatkopar and Kurla. The leakage had caused significant disruptions, impacting thousands of residents.

The issue was traced to a leakage in the 300mm diameter bypass connection of the 1800mm diameter water pipeline at Venturi, which supplies water to the Ghatkopar high-level reservoir. This resulted in a complete halt in the water supply, causing inconvenience to multiple localities.

Although the repair work was initially expected to take 15 hours, BMC completed it ahead of schedule by 5 am on Saturday. The pipeline was reactivated at 7 am, and the refilling of the Ghatkopar reservoir was expedited. Officials from BMC’s Water Supply Department stated that normal water supply would resume once the reservoir reaches optimal levels, which was estimated to take about two hours.

BMC’s swift response helped minimize the impact of the disruption, and authorities are now taking preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
